Tuesday 7th July 2015: “Dark Heart” Trailer

“Dark Heart” is progressing well. The book has been formatted and now all I need to do is finish uploading it to CreateSpace and it’ll be ready to go.

Meanwhile, here’s what delayed this blog post yesterday: a YouTube trailer for “Dark Heart”.

I hope you liked it! If you did, please share!

Monday 29th June 2015: Countdown to “Dark Heart”

The build-up to the release of “Dark Heart” seems to be going well!

I’ve been publishing one poem per day since last Tuesday and the response has been good for the most part.

I’ll be posting a new poem on Penny Gotch Poetry every day from now until the publication of “Dark Heart” (with double posts on Sundays!). So keep an eye on that Tumblr, my Twitter feed or my Facebook page!

But when is “Dark Heart” coming out, I hear you ask?

Two weeks from today, or Monday 13th July. Put it in your diaries!

The book is all formatted and ready to be uploaded to CreateSpace, so it’s just a matter of waiting until the release date.

But I can’t just leave you with that, so here’s a brand new promo image for the book combining the title and the image I’ll be using in the cover art:

Hope you like it – feel free to share!

Tuesday 23rd June 2015: Vids and Blogging and Books, Oh My

Thank you so much for your great response to my Final Year Independent Study videos. I have tentative results for the project: it looks like I have a First, and I couldn’t have done that without you.

Haven’t seen the videos? Not a problem! You can check out the playlist right here.

And every single one has closed captions, so they should be accessible to you even if you’re D/deaf, Hard of Hearing, have auditory processing issues, etc.

I hope you’re also happy to hear that I’m working on five new poetry videos that, together with the ten I’ve made, will be going onto a DVD! I don’t have even a tentative release date for that yet, but I hope to have that available for you before the autumn.

The DVD will come with the ten poetry videos from YouTube, five new poetry videos never before seen, and hopefully a video or two explaining my writing process and giving some trivia about the poems and videos themselves.

But there is something I do have a release date for: my next poetry book!

If you didn’t already know, I self-published a poetry book called “Under the Tree” early last year and put it on Amazon in the late autumn. If you’re interested, you can check it out here.

And I think it’s high time that I followed up with a sequel!

I don’t want to give too much away because I’m not going to be publishing it for another three weeks. But I’m going to share the title with you today: “Dark Heart“.

And here’s another treat for you! I also run a poetry blog called “Penny Gotch’s Poetry” where I give away my works for free.

Yes, you read that correctly: free poetry!

And in the build-up to the publication of “Dark Heart”, I will be posting a new poem there every single day until release day.

That’s 21 poems absolutely free so you can try my work before you buy it.

I hope you enjoy them and I can’t wait to share the new book with you.

Wednesday 20th May 2015: Return and FYIS

This my first blog post in a long time, isn’t it?

I’m going to be honest: the past few months have not been easy for me. Shortly before I vanished, I made a post about my anxiety (which you can read here). That teamed up with clinical depression and a heavy university workload to knock me for six.

But I’ve returned for two reasons. First, I’m in a better place mentally and feel ready to reconnect with you. I’ve missed talking to you about my writing process, my achievements and my goals.

And the second is my Final Year Independent Study (FYIS) for university.

I mentioned on my Facebook page that I was going to make a post here about putting some poetry on my poetry Tumblr. I still intend to do that, but first, I’ve got a different poetry project to share with you.

My FYIS is on Poetry as Performance. To make a long story short, I’ve written ten poems and I’m turning them into short YouTube videos. I’ll be uploading and sharing one video per day for the next ten days, starting from tomorrow.

You’ll be able to find them on my YouTube account and I’ll also be embedding them here and posting links on Facebook and Twitter.

I’ve had a lot of fun writing these poems and making these videos, and I hope you enjoy watching them as much as I enjoyed creating them.

And if they get a good response, I may go about publishing a cheap DVD with all the videos  on it plus a few more exclusive for those who buy. Watch that space!

Thank you for being patient with me, and I hope you enjoy my FYIS work.

“Personal is Political” Trailer

You might have noticed that there was neither a Sunday Scribbling nor a Monday Musing post this week.

And I’m afraid there won’t be a Word Count Wednesday either.

I’m snowed under with university work and unfortunately, I just don’t have the time to write anything.

But I don’t want to leave you with nothing, so I’m going to share with you the trailer for my upcoming collaborative anthology, “Personal is Political”.

Stay safe, and stay aware.

Word Count Wednesday: 19th November 2014

Word Count Wednesday! And how much did I write?

4,680 words, or about 669 words per day!

Which is a little more than last week! Go me!

But that’s not what I want to talk to you about today. No, I’m being a little bit sneaky.

If you read my last Monday Musing, you’ll have seen that I’m publishing a new book.

I’m collaborating with Liam Whear and Susan Wright to bring you “Personal is Political”.

And you’ve probably noticed that I’ve had my poetry book “Under the Tree” on sale for a while.

Well, there are new developments with “Under the Tree”!

I am publishing it on Amazon!

You can get it in paperback now and on Kindle from 24th November (although you can pre-order right now if you like).

So what does that mean for that version down there?

It means that it’s limited edition.

Yes: there will never be another print run of “Under the Tree” with this cover. Consider it Edition 0.

I have only five copies left. After that? You will never be able to buy this version of the book ever again.

It’s your last chance to pick up the original version of “Under the Tree” for just £4 with free P&P anywhere in the UK.

After that? It’s gone!

So if you’d like one of the original copies of “Under the Tree” in its original cover, send me an e-mail at and I’ll get one sent to you.

Hurry while they last!

~ Penny

Monday Musing: Press Release – “Personal is Political”

I’ve chosen to do Monday Musing on purpose this week.

Yep: I’m deliberately doing a Monday Musing this week instead of a Sunday Scribbling.

And why’s that?

Because it’s exactly two weeks from a new book release!

Yes, on top of the continuing sale on “Under the Tree”, I’m teaming up with two other writers for a new book!

Music reviewer Liam Whear, new talent Susan Wright and I are bringing you “Personal is Political”.

Inspired by a famous 1969 essay by Carol Hanisch, the anthology is a mixture of prose and poetry by the three of us.

Its purpose? Framing personal issues in a global, politicised context.

“Personal is Political” covers a wide variety of topics. From environmentalism to feminism, mental health to body image, there’s something for everyone.

And through them, it shows just what the title says: how even your identity can be a political thing.

Plus it has gorgeous cover art by the talented Molly Penford.

This anthology is more than just words: it’s a work of art in itself.

The Kindle edition is due out on 1st December 2014, two weeks from today.

We haven’t settled on a price yet, but it shouldn’t be much.

And physical copies should be available shortly after, also for a low price.

Please consider supporting a promising trio of twenty-something writers and pick up a copy when it comes out.

Stay safe, stay aware, and keep an eye out for more information from us in the weeks to come!

~ Penny

P.S. “Under the Tree” is still on sale! Read the review or e-mail me for more information at
